Rowland Bingham

In 1893 Walter Gowans and Rowland Bingham of Canada and Thomas Kent of the U.S. landed in Nigeria intent to evangelize the 'Soudan' region of Africa. Though Gowans and Kent died of malaria, Bingham persisted and established a base in Nigeria in 1902.

At the same time a Scotsman began work on the island of Ceylon; two Australians established a base in India; and New Zealanders, George and Mary Allan, reached Bolivia. After decades of independent success, the four mission groups joined in the 1980s to form an international ministry, now called SIM (Serving in mission)

Our Vision Statement:
We are a community of God's people who delight to worship Him and are passionate about the Gospel, seeking to fulfill the mission of Jesus Christ in the world.

Our Motto:
  By Prayer

We invite
you to partner with us to fulfill the
GREAT COMMISSION!

Christians from many countries and different churches with various skills join SIM to serve in mission, bringing people to

Christ and discipling them into churches through many different ministry programmes.

South African Field Ministries

SIM area and field offices are in Johannesburg.

SIM is actively reaching out to HIV/AIDS sufferers through our HOPE for Aids programme. This involves training in Home care, establishing Orphanages, teaching on Prevention and Enabling the church to become involved.

For over sixty years we have been involved in medical ministry at Mseleni hospital  in Kwa Zulu Natal.

We encourage ongoing church growth in our affiliated churches. Africa Evangelical Church(AEC) and the Evangelical Church of South Africa (ECSA),  have some 5000 members.

Church work, evangelism and discipleship are undertaken among Ango
lan refugees and the Chinese communities.

In various locations in South Africa we seek opportunities to share the gospel with people of other religions focusing essentially on teaching churches to reach out to their neighbours.

Church planting continues in the North West Province among the Tswana-speaking people.

SIM is involved in theological education in various locations in South Africa .

South African Sending Office is based inCapeTown.
T
his office is the intermediary between the South African missionaries and their supporters, handling their finances and other needs, currently covering missionaries in fourteen countries, spread over five continents. Their respective spheres of service include agriculture, finance, medicine, teaching, veterinary care, evangelism and church planting.
The office, which is staffed by missionaries, salaried people and volunteers, also has the responsibility for promoting the mission and processing applications of South African Christians who sense God is calling them to a foreign mission field through SIM.
