Despite attempts at democracy, Togo continues under a one-party military government. Political turmoil has resulted in a massive flight to neighbouring countries, and in ongoing economic difficulties. Traditional African religions are still a dominant force in Togo, which, with Benin, has Africa's highest percentage of unevangelised traditionalists. Islam's power is growing, though presently churches and missions are enjoying greater freedom than in the past.

SIM's vision is to plant churches among the unreached Muslim groups, beginning with the Kotokoli. We also rejoice in the churches being planted in Togo by tribal relatives of the SIM-related church (UEEB) in Benin. Those churches have established the Eglise Evangelique Independent du Togo (EEIT--Independent Evangelical Church of Togo), which represents SIM work in Togo. The church is growing in its ministries for children, youth, and women.

SIM takes responsibility for a radio outreach in the Kotokoli language, and SIM missionaries enjoy a noteworthy partnership relationship with missionaries from other agencies who have common goals.

Please pray for:

  1. The church to mature in its discipling and outreach ministries.
  2. The entrenched powers of darkness (idolatry, secret societies, Islam) to be defeated by the truth of the gospel.
  3. Training programs to be established for church leaders.
  4. Muslim Kotokoli to have open hearts to the gospel.
  5. More missionaries for Togo.
